In 1969, a dedicated and energetic Alpha Kappa Alpha woman, Alma Brenda Winters Grant, initiated the movement that resulted in the chartering of a graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. The interest group of fifteen women called themselves “The Circle of Alpha Kappa Alpha Women." Brenda Grant was selected as chairperson.
On December 5, 1970, “The Circle of Alpha Kappa Alpha Women" became Iota Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Ernestine Holloway, the 14th South Eastern Regional Director, performed the chartering ceremony and installed the officers. The ceremony was held at Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale. A celebration ball followed at the Mes Zenith Club in Marks, Mississippi, and the members of the new chapter were introduced to the public.
Iota Delta Omega Chapter in its efforts to strengthen leadership roles, and implement the sorority's programs, sponsored and participated in numerous activities. Members have attended national, regional, area, and leadership conferences. The local activities included Halloween parties for children, Back to School Jamboree for Coahoma Community College students, Easter Cheer for hospitals, donations to feeding programs and shelters, Sickle Cell Anemia Screening Sessions, Voter Registration Drives, and Tax Preparation Service Project (VITA).
